Jawi Script is an Arabic-based script used for writing the Malay language and several other languages in Southeast Asia, such as Acehnese, Banjarese, and Tausūg. It originated from the introduction of Islam to the Malay Archipelago, which brought the Arabic script along with religious texts. The Jawi script includes additional characters to represent sounds not found in Arabic, making it suitable for transcribing Malay phonetics.
